PHYSICIAN OR CONSULTING CLINICAL SCIENTIST - MEDICAL MICROBIOLOGY

Job description

The Attending Physician or Consulting Clinical Scientist – Medical Microbiology represents his or her Division within the Department of Pathology, within Sidra and externally to provide, advance, and promote excellence in the investigation and diagnosis of pediatric and/or maternal infectious diseases in the fields of bacteriology, virology, mycobacteriology, mycology, parasitology and molecular detection of pathogens; and to plan and direct the educational activities, research and diagnostic test development in the Division. The primary responsibilities of the Attending Physician or Consulting Clinical Scientist – Medical Microbiology are the provision of laboratory service; diagnostic testing and test interpretation; communication with medical staff; quality control and assurance; participation in the management of the Division; teaching at various levels; basic and applied research; sharing responsibility for all aspects of laboratory functions including diagnostic testing, maintaining quality assurance programs, and training of laboratory staff, residents and fellows within the Division. The Attending Physician or Consulting Clinical Scientist – Medical Microbiology will also be expected to work closely with the Antibiotic Stewardship Committee, the Infection Prevention and Control Team, and the Division of Infectious Diseases.

 

For the right candidate, the position of Division Chief may be available. The successful candidate may also be eligible for an academic appointment, commensurate with experience, at Weill Cornell Medicine Qatar.

 

Education:

 

·         MD or equivalent degree or

·         PhD or equivalent life sciences degree

 

Plus 

·         Specialist Certification in Clinical/Medical Microbiology: American Board of Medical Microbiology or American Society for Clinical Pathology Residency or Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification in Medical Microbiology or the UK Royal College of Pathologists in Medical Microbiology or equivalent.

 

Experience:

 

2+ years medical microbiology experience in an academic health care institution or equivalent in UK, Republic of Ireland, or other European Country with accredited and recognized board, Australia, New Zealand, US or Canada.

Candidates with experience in the development and validation of molecular diagnostics and research experience in microbiology or infectious diseases are preferred.
