Applications are invited for the above post of Consultant Paediatrician with interest in Respiratory Medicine based at St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester, part of the Western Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.

The successful candidate be part of a department of established consultants. Both Worthing and Chichester Paediatric teams have well-established consultant of the week systems (1:12) and a variety of complimentary special interests. There is close integration between the two sites through a range of joint educational and governance activities.

The successful candidate will join a team that has a highly engaged workforce with a strong track record of quality and safety, including being the first Trust in the country to achieve a rating of ‘outstanding’ in both maternity and child health on two sites.

Western Sussex Hospitals is the first non-specialist acute trust in the country to be rated ‘Outstanding’ in all the key inspection areas assessed by the Care Quality Commission in 2019, improving upon the trust’s first ‘Outstanding’ rating from four years ago. We are a forward looking and innovative trust whose purpose is to provide high quality emergency and elective care for the people of West Sussex.

On 1 April 2021, Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will be merging with Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust to form a new NHS Foundation Trust that will bring together the very best of both organisations to innovate and improve the health of our communities and deliver outstanding, compassionate care locally whilst increasing the opportunities for specialised services to flourish in Sussex.

Our hospitals are all situated along the beautiful Sussex coast, nestled against the South Downs National Park, and close to vibrant towns that are richly endowed with excellent cultural and sporting facilities, offering good transport links to London and Europe.

All newly appointed Consultants are mentored, via the “WSHFT Mentorship scheme for senior medical staff”.

Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of attaining Specialist Registration at the time of interview.

Applications from candidates who, for personal reasons, are unable to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for this post.
