Consultant Cardiac Surgeon

Applications are invited for a substantive Consultant Cardiac Surgeon within the Cardiovascular Directorate. This is an excellent opportunity for a talented and motivated individual with experience in all surgical aspects of adult Cardiac Surgery including trauma with a special interest in minimal access valve surgery. The post is based at King’s College Hospital and includes a commitment to the on-call rota, currently at 1:6.
King’s College Hospital is a major provider of tertiary services within the region, with a well-established national and international reputation for clinical excellence, innovation and achievement. The Cardiac Centre provides the full range of secondary and tertiary adult cardiac services across a large part of the South Thames and North Kent Region.
The clinical department has excellent tertiary centre facilities including two and a half Cardiothoracic Theatres, a Cardiothoracic Recovery Unit and Cardiothoracic Surgical Ward. A total of more than 900 patients underwent open cardiac operations last year and approximately 250 thoracic operations were performed. The King’s Cardiac Unit has a particular interest in innovative cardiac procedures. The Transapical Aortic Valve Programme was the first in the UK and we have an established Endoscopic Cardiac Surgical Programme.
The Trust in partnership with King’s College London and Guys & St Thomas’ Foundation was approved Academic Health Sciences Centre (King’s Health Partners) and as part of this has recently opened a new £30 million research institute with a major cardiovascular focus.
You must be fully registered with the GMC, hold a Licence to Practice and be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent to be eligible for interview.
The post holder will have regular contact with vulnerable adults and/or children (0-18 years), therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, and as such, it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
