DEPARTMENT PROFILE

 

The Department of Pathology provides diagnostic laboratory, point of care, and transfusion services for Sidra Medicine, for affiliated hospitals in Doha, and for referred-in specimens from outside of Qatar. Our focus is on providing world class laboratory services to our pediatric and maternal patients. In addition to its clinical service duties, the Department participates in basic and clinical research related to human disease, and provides teaching to medical undergraduates, residents and fellows in partnership with Weill Cornell Medicine – Qatar.

 

JOB PROFILE

 

The Attending Physician or Consulting Clinical Scientist – Pathology Genetics represents his or her Division within the Department of Pathology, within Sidra and externally to provide, advance, and promote excellence in the investigation and diagnosis of pediatric and/or maternal genetic diseases; and to plan and direct the educational activities, research and diagnostic test development in the Division. The primary responsibilities of the Attending Physician or Consulting Clinical Scientist – Pathology Genetics are the provision of laboratory service; diagnostic testing and test interpretation; communication with medical staff; quality control and assurance; participation in the management of the Division; teaching at various levels; basic and applied research; sharing responsibility for all aspects of laboratory functions including diagnostic testing, maintaining quality assurance programs, and training of laboratory staff, residents and fellows within the Division.

 

For the right candidate, the position of Division Chief may be available. The successful candidate may also be eligible for an academic appointment, commensurate with experience, at Weill Cornell Medicine Qatar.

 

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

 

Education

 

·         MD or equivalent degree

or

·         PhD or equivalent life sciences degree

 

Plus

 

·         In the case of MD: Completion of a residency program in Molecular Genetic/Genomic Pathology and relevant Board Certification, or completion of respective Fellowship program from a relevant recognized university.

or

·         In the case of PhD: Relevant Board Certification, or Fellowship of relevant College: FACMG; FCCMG; FRCPath; FFSc(RCPA).

 

Experience

 

2+ years relevant experience in a clinical pathology laboratory or equivalent in UK, Republic of Ireland, or other European Country with accredited and recognized board, Australia, New Zealand, US or Canada. Assistant/Associate Professor status would be desirable.

In the case of Division Chief, 10+ years relevant experience at a senior level running a relevant division in a clinical pathology laboratory; Associate/Full Professor status would be desirable.
