There is currently one permanent, whole-time post available. The post holder will initially be based in HSE, Dental Department, Community Care, James’s Green, Kilkenny.

A panel may be created from the campaign for Dental Services, South East Community Healthcare to fill current and future, permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part time duration.

Details of Service

The successful candidate will be based in the Kilkenny campus. The unit provides an oral health service involving oral health assessment, health promotion, prevention and a dental treatment service to children and to adults with special needs in Kilkenny and Carlow. The unit works closely with colleagues in Primary Care and with hospital colleagues especially those involved in the organisation and provision of dental general anaesthetic services to children and adults with special needs. Children who qualify for public Orthodontic treatment are referred to the Orthodontic service.  Treatment for adults who hold a medical card is contracted to Private Dental Practitioners.

The team includes a Principal Dental Surgeon, Senior Dental Surgeons, General Dental Surgeons, Dental Hygienists, Dental Nurses and administrative support staff. 

Kilkenny Carlow is within CHO5 which also includes South Tipperary, Waterford and Wexford.

Reporting Relationship

The post holder will report to the Principal Dental Surgeon. 

 

Purpose of the Post

The post is both clinical and administrative. The post-holder will assist the Principal Dental Surgeon in the day-to day running of dental services in the area, including the implementation and evaluation of standards, guidelines and policies and will work closely as required with other Senior Administrative Dental Surgeons within CHO5 to encourage standardisation of policies, procedures and access to services across the CHO. The post-holder will also assist the Principal Dental Surgeon with the administration of the DTSS, Health and Safety, rostering of staff, procurement and will be involved with the development of dental departments in new Primary Care Centres. The post-holder will also have a clinical work-load.  The successful candidate will have a role in ensuring that the service meets all current best practices, aids the implementation of change and participates in the audit cycle.
