At AmongDoctors EventsBarts Health NHS Trust

Job description

Applications are invited for a substantive consultant post in Critical Care Medicine, based in the Adult Critical Care Unit (ACCU) at The Royal London Hospital. There will be a sessional commitment to Newham University Hospital on a 70:30 basis RLH:NUH. Applications are welcome from doctors in any specialty with appropriate training and qualifications in critical care medicine (intensive care medicine, anaesthetists, physicians, emergency medicine doctors). It is expected that applicants have advanced training in critical care medicine as defined by the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine or provide evidence of similar training and experience.

The Royal London Hospital (RLH) is a leading trauma centre and tertiary referral centre for neurosciences (including a hyper-acute stroke centre), vascular, renal, hepato-biliary medicine and surgery. The hospital provides acute general medical and surgical services (including obstetrics) for the local population; there is a busy emergency department where over 130,000 patients a year are seen.

This post offers the opportunity to form part of a team of seventeen intensivists running the Royal London intensive care unit. This is a modern 44 bedded critical care unit consists of a mixture of level 2 and 3 beds. Over 2000 patients are admitted to the ACCU each year, approximately 30% of whom have trauma related injuries. Additional service provision includes critical care outreach and a follow-up clinic; we also have an active research department led by Professor Rupert Pearse. We have an expanded bed base due to COVID-19 and it is likely we will have intensive care units on two floors of the hospital.
