Consultant in Endocrinology/G(I)M

At AmongDoctors EventsCambridge University Hospitals

Job description

Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust seeks applications from those interested in joining an expanding pool of Consultants in Endocrinology at Addenbrooke’s Hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. This represents a significant investment in the Clinical Endocrinology service, and offers an exciting opportunity to consolidate and further develop Endocrinology in Cambridge.

Those appointed will have the opportunity to contribute to all areas of the Endocrine service. One of the appointees will have a particular role leading the thyroid service, complementing local research strength in thyroid diseases. Another will help shape and deliver the growing clinical service in pituitary, neuroendocrine and adrenal disorders, working closely with a research group active in endocrine imaging. We also view this expansion as an opportunity to develop strength in other areas of Endocrinology reflecting the experience and enthusiasm of those appointed. All of the successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the in-patient service, which includes some general medical patients, but not to the general medical on-call rota.

Each of the appointees will have the ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of endocrine problems and will be involved in teaching and training of junior staff, medical students and other health professionals. Working on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus also offers an unrivalled opportunity to collaborate with Cambridge University and other local research institutes and pharmaceutical companies, as the campus continues its rapid expansion and consolidates its position as one of Europe’s leading centres of biomedical research. The appointees will be particularly encouraged to contribute to, or lead, clinical trials and other translational research using the excellent clinical research facilities allied to the Institute of Metabolic Science within the adjacent Cambridge Clinical Research Centre.

You will be fully registered with the GMC and ideally have a CCT in Diabetes and Endocrinology with G(I)M (or equivalent) or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.

As part of our commitment to supporting the medical workforce in the part they play in delivering an excellent caring service to patients, all newly appointed Consultants attend our five-day Consultant Development programme within a year of joining the Trust. Leadership is a key requirement of doctors’ professional work and this innovative programme is designed to support Consultants to hone the leadership and management skills they need to succeed at CUH.

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013).

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.

From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement.

Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is an Equal Opportunities Employer.
