Consultant Haematologist

At AmongDoctors EventsTorbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust

Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to join Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, as it has recently become one of the first vertically integrated health and care organisations in the country.

The current acquisition of the community health and social care provider (Torbay and Southern Devon Health and Care NHS Trust) allows us to radically re-think and re-shape the way we deliver care, free from traditional organisational constraints.

The post will offer an opportunity to be part of designing and delivering innovative new services in Torbay and South Devon, including more integrated and streamlined care pathways for patients.

Torbay Hospital is a medium sized progressive and innovative District General Hospital providing acute services to South Devon.

We are situated about 2 miles from the centre of Torquay and virtually all facilities, including 2 new linear accelerators, are concentrated on the one site.

There are excellent opportunities for a variety of lifestyles and interests being close to both the Coast and Moorland.

Torquay offers excellent state schools, with academic success at the highest levels for both A Levels and the international Baccalaureate.

The haematology service requires a full time consultant haematologist. The appointee will join a team of 5 consultants who provide a comprehensive inpatient and outpatient service to Torbay and South Devon.

The team also comprises of 1 specialist registrar, 4 junior doctors (shared with Oncology) and a specialist nurse team. There is a dedicated haematology/oncology ward with 19 beds (4 HEPA filtered rooms) and a combined day unit for the delivery of SACT and emergency assessment of patients providing BCSH level 2B services.

There is collaboration with Derriford Hospital, Plymouth as part of the South West peninsula transplant service for autologous transplants (delivered locally) and allogeneic transplants.

Applicants are required to be on the GMCs Specialist Register with a licence to practice or within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.

For an information discussion or to arrange a visit please contact Dr Deborah Turner, Consultant Haematologist & Clinical Director for Cancer Services on 01803655244 or [email protected].
