The Department for the Management of Noncommunicable Diseases, Disability, Violence and Injury Prevention (NVI) advances global health through the prevention of violence, injury, vision and hearing loss; the management of NCDs; and the improvement of the quality of life for people with disability. The Noncommunicable Diseases Management Unit's main mission is to provide leadership and technical guidance for development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, plans and programmes for management of Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) including cardiovascular diseases, in collaboration with Member States and internal and external partners. The objective of the programme is to support delivery of the Global Action Plan for the Prevention and Control of NCDs including the strengthening of health systems for NCD management. 1. Develop WHO guidance, recommendations, and implementation frameworks on health system strengthening, health workforce capacity building and monitoring of NCD management at different levels of health care and support their adaptation and use in countries; 2. Develop guidance and implementation materials and support the development, expansion and evaluation of palliative care services; 3. Support and strengthen WHO's work on access to essential quality medicine and technologies relevant to NCD management; 4. Develop reports, policy briefs and information and advocacy materials on cross-cutting aspects of NCD management; 5. Assist regional and country offices, as well as partners, in strengthening health systems response to NCDs; 6. Support health sector planning and evaluation for NCDs within the NCD national plans and other relevant policies and plans; 7. Contribute to other WHO efforts on NCDs in general as needed. Essential: A first university degree in medicine. Post graduate degree in public health (M.P.H) or related areas. Training in NCD prevention and control and/or health policy and programme development. Essential: At least five years of experience in health systems or public health related to NCD prevention and control, of which at least 3 focused on health system strengthening for NCD management including in low- or middle-income settings. More than 2 publications in peer review journals Desirable: At least 3 years of experience at the international level. Working experience in international organizations Essential: Expert knowledge of English. WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 60,233 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 3850 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
