An opportunity has become available for a Specialty Doctor to join our inter-disciplinary team at Cygnet Heathers.

Cygnet Heathers in Birmingham is a CQC rated ‘Good’ neuropsychiatric inpatient service for up to 20 adult male clients. Our focus is on maximising creating an environment that engages our service users and sets the tone for recovery.

The site has been carefully designed and equipped with an all-integrated physical environment to aid our clients’ neurobehavioural rehabilitation process which assists the men to manage visual, spatial and perceptual difficulties.

The Opportunity...

As a Specialty Doctor you will work alongside the Consultant Psychiatrist to provide continuous medical cover to client’s within the service, maintain standards of care and support with initiating treatment plans.

The post-holder will support the Consultant Psychiatrist with the following;

  • screen and assess referrals
  • undertake client examination to establish diagnosis
  • provide appropriate treatment
  • prescribe and review medication

You will have a key role providing support to the Consultant Psychiatrist in risk management and embedding clinical governance within the service. There is a requirement to participate in ward rounds, multi-disciplinary meetings, Care Programme Approach Meetings (CPA’s), Mental Health Review Tribunals (MHRT’s) ensuring that full and up-to-date clinical information is available to the meeting and ensuring that medical decisions are implemented as planned.

You will also communicate effectively with other agencies and professionals as required for client assessment and for co-ordination of discharge plans.

The appointed candidate will becomepart of anestablished onsite team comprising of a Consultant Psychiatrist, Allied Health Professionals, Psychologist, Management, Nursing Staff and Healthcare Support Workers.

Our Specialty Doctors also need to have…

Essential:

  • GMC registration
  • An MBBS (or equivalent) medical qualification
  • Experience as a Staff Grade / Specialty Doctor or Associate Specialist
  • Excellent verbal / written communication skills to consult with patients / staff members effectively and document clear and comprehensive medical notes

Desirable:

  • Experience within an adult neuropsychiatry setting
  • Section 12 Approval
  • Royal College of Psychiatrists membership (MRCPsych) or equivalent
  • Excellent verbal / written communication skills to consult with patients / staff members effectively and document clear and comprehensive medical notes
  • Have a clear understanding of the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice
  • Experience in making clinical decisions along with knowledge of risk assessment and management principles
  • Proven record of CPD (Continued Professional Development)
