Location: Prince Phillip Hospital, Llanelli, Carmarthenshire

The post holder will play a key role in the delivery of acute cardiac and elective services to the population of Hywel Dda. This will involve the care of in-patients, outpatients and patients attending for elective procedures such as coronary angiography.

The post is based in Prince Phillip Hospital, Llanelli although duties will involve working on other sites in the Health Board. The successful candidate will join the current compliment of cardiology colleagues across the Health Board to work collaboratively with them to (1) provide seamless coverage of cardiology services (2) to expand OPD capacity and (3) to undertake or develop sub-specialist activities within area of expertise. Sessions at Morriston Hospital, Swansea may also be available to undertake sub-specialty work where appropriate.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is one of seven acute Health Boards in Wales serving a population of circa 384,000 with over 9,500 staff. There are approx. 225 acute and elective inpatient beds, supporting Acute and Elective General Medicine and Elective General Surgery, Orthopaedics, and Urology. The hospital provides surgical day case theatres, endoscopic suite, Radiology and Laboratory support and palliative care facilities, including a new hospice facility. It also provides for a range of specialist outpatient clinics including Haematology, Respiratory, Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Elderly Care, Endocrinology, Sleep medicine, Rheumatology, ENT, General Surgery, TIA clinics. It is also the site of a new Breast Unit and the Rapid Access Lung cancer clinic. Recently, PPH has setup a highly successful 6 bedded Health Board wide treat and repatriate service for rapid Acute Coronary Syndrome patients, working closely with Morriston Cardiology department.

Hywel Dda Health Board was formed on 1st October 2009 and replaces Hywel Dda NHS Trust, Pembrokeshire Local Health Board, Ceredigion Local Health Board and Carmarthenshire Local Health Board.
