Salary £38,060 - £72,840 per annum (based on 10 PA)

As part of United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust’s commitment to meeting the health care needs of the local population, applications are invited for the post of Specialty Doctor in Trauma & Orthopaedics, based primarily at Lincoln County Hospital.

We are looking for 2 highly motivated individuals to join our department in an exciting opportunity to broaden their experience in Trauma and Orthopaedics at United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust. We are a busy department with 26 Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeons across three main sites countywide.

Duties will be based around inpatient, outpatient and surgical activity. The successful candidate would have the opportunity to rotate between firms and gain exposure in lower limb arthroplasty, soft-tissue knee surgery, paediatric orthopaedics, upper limb surgery including hand, elbow and shoulder surgery and foot and ankle surgery as well as general trauma work.

Training remains a high priority within the department and we strongly support career progression. The successful candidate will be expected to be involved in operating sessions across sites at Lincoln County Hospital for trauma and complex elective / paediatrics, Grantham Hospital for elective inpatient surgery including hip, knee and shoulder arthroplasty, and Louth Hospital for day case surgery. You will be expected to take part in teaching the junior doctors which is run on a weekly basis. You will also be expected to take part in the directorate clinical governance activity as well as audit and research projects.

On-call commitments will involve a rota of 1 in 12 with prospective cover.

We are looking for a candidate with a commitment to excellence in team working and relationships who can also demonstrate good leadership skills and be able to work with enthusiasm. It should be noted that countywide travel will be required for this post.

The post-holder will be assigned to a Consultant but should be prepared to work as required within the Department. Although this post is not recognised for training it could prove useful to candidates who have completed basic surgical training and wish to acquire hands-on surgical experience while awaiting a Specialist Registrar appointment.

Applicants must have at least three years medical work post registration with at least 12 months experience in Orthopaedic Surgery. A post-graduate qualification in Surgery/Orthopaedic Surgery is desirable.
