Consultant in Acute Internal Medicine

At AmongDoctors EventsLuton and Dunstable Hospital NHS Trust

Job description

Applications are invited for the above full time post for this 641 bed acute hospital serving a local population of approximately 400,000. This appointment will be made in accordance with the terms and conditions of service for the 2003 consultant contract (England)

The post will be based in the Acute Medicine facility consisting of 68 beds incorporating an Emergency Assessment Unit, two short-stay wards, an acute clinic and a new Ambulatory Care Centre. The appointee will work on a rota to cover these areas, with the other six consultants. Pursuit of a specialist interest is encouraged, subject to mutually agreed timetabling, but most interests can be facilitated. In addition there is at most a 1:12 rota to oversee the acute medical take, with compensatory rest days.

The L&D’s future vision is to become a hyperacute centre including a stroke, PCI and pacing, and bleed service in the medical department provided by specialists. A £150 million development has just commenced which will rebuild all medical areas including a major expansion of the existing A&E, a new suite of operating theatres, an integrated critical care floor with isolation rooms and medical wards with a new Ambulatory Care Centre and acute medical areas. Alongside this, the Hospital is undertaking a large and unique review of service provision so as to move towards a patient needs based care service that admits patients under the most appropriate specialty team and will include 7 day working.
