Consultant Physician in Respiratory Medicine

At AmongDoctors EventsEpsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust

Job description

The successful candidate will provide specialist clinical advise in Respiratory Medicine both for inpatients and outpatients management. We feel that the suggested job plan allows a perfect work/life balance with inpatient care, outpatient clinics, “in-reach” respiratory advice to the wards. St Helier Hospital provides Respiratory input in general and sub-speciality clinics (Asthma/COPD/ Allergy-Immunology/ Cancer and Tb).

We would be happy to support any other/additional interest that will complement the Department.

We are proud to have excellent links to our neighbouring Trusts (Royal Marsden/ St. George’s Hospital University of London) for provision of Oncology, Thoracic Surgery and EBUS. As part of our development, we have established a thriving Lung Cancer service supported by both hospital sites, with direct input from our tertiary centre colleagues. We also offer an in-house PleurX/Pleural service at our Epsom site.

Our hospital has two regional centres– the South West London Renal Centre and Immunology Unit, covering South West London and Sussex/Surrey. This creates a unique environment enabling exciting referrals, optional clinics and opportunities for research.

We have dedicated support from Chest/Interventional Radiologists and you will be supported in your work by large teams of experienced Respiratory Nurse Specialists, Tb and Lung Cancer Nurses. Furthermore we have a full complement of junior doctors, including an Associated Specialist.

The Department has 8 substantial Consultant colleagues, working on two sites, St Helier Hospital (3 colleagues: Drs Kahr/Varney/ Medveczky and this advertised post) and Epsom Hospital (4 colleagues: Drs Ratoff/Rahman/ Wells/Molanguri). The post will include shared on-calls with Physician colleagues for General Internal Medicine, currently on 1:16 rota.

This post would suit both – a visionary, motivated Consultant post as well as an already established Physician. Please refer to the detailed proposed job description for more information about the Department and the post.

We request that successful applicants must have relevant experience in Respiratory Medicine with full registration with the GMC and already have CCT, or be within 6 months of obtaining CCT in Respiratory Medicine.

Company Description

We offer an extensive range of services, including cancerpathologysurgery, and gynaecology to over 490,000 people in south west London and north east Surrey. We operate two busy general hospitals, Epsom Hospital and St Helier Hospital, and run services from other locations, including Sutton Hospital.

St Helier Hospital is home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children, while Epsom Hospital is home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC). Both Epsom and St Helier hospitals have Accident and Emergency departments (A&E) and Maternity services (Obstetrics).

With nearly 900,000 people coming to our hospitals for care and treatment every year, our almost 5,000 staff and 500 volunteers work around the clock to keep our busy hospitals running smoothly.

As teaching hospitals, we play a key role in the education and training of tomorrow's doctors, nurses and other health professionals. Both sites work in partnership with St George’s Hospital and St George’s Medical School in south London to deliver high quality education and research. Outside St George’s Hospital, we support the education of more medical students than any other teaching hospital in south London.
