Consultant in Diagnostic Neuroradiology

At AmongDoctors EventsNorth Bristol NHS Trust

Job description

Applications are invited to apply for a Full Time or Part Time Consultant in Diagnostic Neuroradiology.

North Bristol NHS Trust is the largest hospital trust in the South West, providing hospital and community healthcare to the residents of Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset. We are also a specialist regional centre for a number of services including Vascular, Urology, Neurosurgery, Renal, Plastics, Burns, Orthopaedics and we are also the Major Trauma Centre for the South West Region. Our state-of-the-art Brunel Building is one of the most modern hospitals in Europe and we have a strong international reputation for clinical excellence.

If you are from outside the area, Bristol is consistently voted as one of the best places to live in the UK, with a rich history, thriving arts, music, gastronomic and independent retails scenes, excellent transport links and easy access to the spectacular countryside and coastlines of South Wales, Devon, Dorset and Cornwall.

The post-holder will join a team of 9 Consultant Neuroradiologists (including 3 Interventional Neuroradiologists) and 2 Fellows proving the full range of diagnostic and interventional neuroradiological services to the department of Neurosciences and the referring hospital network. The post is largely based in Southmead Hospital with additional commitments for paediatric neuroradiology and gamma knife at University Hospitals Bristol. At present there is a 1:8 diagnostic neuroradiology on-call commitment covering North Bristol and Bristol Children’s Hospital. This is under review as a key consideration in advertising this post is in taking forward plans to develop a comprehensive stroke centre and offer extended hours access to Mechanical Thrombectomy at North Bristol.

There is an increasingly busy Neurointerventional service managing most neurovascular disorders in adults and children. Complex problems (referred by many Centres in the United Kingdom) are managed in conjunction with 3 Neurovascular Neurosurgeons. The Neurosurgical department consists of 15 Consultants and provides a comprehensive Neurosurgical service to a core population of 2.5 million. It receives further specialist referrals for complex Spinal Neurosurgery from a wider catchment area and receives further specialist referrals from South Wales as well as elsewhere in the UK and abroad. Spinal, Stereotactic, Image Guided, Cerebrovascular, Epilepsy, Functional, and Skull Base and other sub specialist Neurosurgical Services are provided. There are 23 Consultant Neurologists including 4 for Stroke services, for adult work at Southmead and there is a significant clinical interface with the Neurology service in the surrounding area.
