Consultant in Diabetes & Endocrinology 50% & Acute Medicine

These 2 posts have arisen as a result of a review of demand and capacity of our acute and diabetes and endocrinology departments. We are committed to providing healthcare of the highest quality and wish to attract candidates of the highest calibre. The post holders will be predominantly based at the Northwick Park site, however due to changes in service provision the post holders may be expected to work on other sites operated by the trust including Central Middlesex Hospital, Ealing Hospital and community sites.

The diabetes and endocrinology service at Northwick Park Hospital sees approximately 1000 patients per month. There are sub-specialty clinics for patients with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes clinics, transitional diabetes, antenatal, insulin pump therapy, radioiodine therapy, foot ulcers, endocrine disorders, general medical disorders, etc. A full range of associated healthcare professionals are on site including inpatient and outpatient specialist nurses, endocrine specialist nurses, dietician and podiatry.

The Acute GIM service provides direct hands-on consultant cover for the Assessment Service thirteen hours per day, seven days per week and we envisage more changes to working practices in the future. We provide two on-call teams each 24 hours along with separate teams to cover Short Stay and our award winning Emergency Ambulatory Care Unit.

The weekly distribution of PAs supporting direct clinical care will be by mutual agreement with the Divisional Clinical Directors of Integrated Medicine and Emergency Medicine and the Leads for these areas. Professional supporting activities attract a 2.5 PA allocation (to include departmental meetings, undergraduate teaching, appraisal, CME and audit), the Trust being committed to supporting continuing medical education and to providing time and financial support for these activities. Direct clinical care PAs are allocated 3.75 Acute Medicine and 3.75 Endocrinology & Diabetes.
